Rick Harris Promoted To Executive Director Of Tech Alliance

(Rockville, MD)-June 25, 2007- The Tech Council of Maryland/MdBio (TCM/MdBio) today announced the promotion of Rick Harris to executive director of the Tech Alliance, a division of TCM/MdBio, effective July 2, 2007. A 17-year trade association veteran, Harris will be responsible for the daily management, membership recruitment, event promotion and fundraising activities for the Tech Alliance.

"From managing and producing TCM/MdBio's largest events to creating new revenue streams, Rick has helped our entire organization grow and gain a greater profile in the Mid-Atlantic region," said Larry Letow, chair of the Tech Alliance and president/COO of Convergence Technology Consulting in Glen Burnie, Maryland. "This promotion is a result of his passion for business success and our need to establish the Tech Alliance brand in this region."

The Tech Alliance division of TCM/MdBio will produce educational programs, collaborative member roundtables and benefits specifically for TCM/MdBio members that specialize in advanced technologies. Harris is also charged with developing incentives for existing and new members. In addition, he will create more ways for members to participate at an increased level through volunteer committees and fundraising activities to benefit advanced technology members and employers.

Harris joined TCM/MdBio in January 2005 as its vice president of marketing and was promoted to chief operating officer in 2006 when he took on additional responsibilities in running the day-to-day operations for the organization. When TCM completed its merger with MdBio earlier in the year, Harris was tasked with leading the Tech Alliance division to complement its new MdBio division. There is currently a search underway to fill the executive director position at MdBio.

Harris and the new MdBio division executive director will report to Julie Coons, president and CEO of TCM/MdBio, a $16 million dollar organization that promotes the growth and quality of the technology and life sciences communities in Maryland and the region by providing outstanding education, advocacy, and business networking opportunities.

"Rick has been a large part of the growth and the resurgence of TCM/MdBio as a networking organization," said Coons, CEO of TCM/MdBio. "His event production, marketing creativity and departmental management skills will put the Tech Alliance on a decided path toward growth."
