Best Buy Joins TCM in the Fight to Repeal Tech Tax

 

(Rockville, MD) – February 20, 2008 – The Tech Council of Maryland (TCM) announced today that Best Buy Co., Inc. has joined the effort to repeal the six percent Computer Services Sales Tax that was recently passed by the Maryland General Assembly. Best Buy, the largest electronic retailer in America, has added its considerable clout to the effort because of the negative impact it will have on its Maryland stores as well as its customers.

“Best Buy’s commitment to this issue is important because of the impact on their business and the Maryland economy. Their involvement is a huge indicator of just how devastating this tax will be if not repealed,” said Julie Coons, Chief Executive Officer of TCM. “Businesses, like Best Buy, throughout the country know this tax is a bad idea.”

TCM continues to lead the fight for the full repeal of the Computer Services Sales Tax and welcomes Best Buy into the strategy to accomplish its goal. Working closely with legislators who oppose the tax, TCM is making its presence felt in Annapolis.
