About TCM Events
Our goal of creating and sustaining a vibrant technology and life science community is supported by the events we host that educate our members, celebrate their achievements, and provide a way for them to connect in person. Tech Council events are held throughout the year and are divided into two major categories – Signature Events and Spotlight Series Events. Signature Events are larger in scale and cater to the majority of our members. These events enable members to meet industry leaders, political figures, and members of the academic community in a social setting. Spotlight Series events are focused on key industry topics and are educational in nature. They are developed for targeted groups of technology and life science leaders.
The TCM Industry Awards Celebration is the only awards ceremony that honors the best in Maryland’s life science and technology community. This celebration is one of Maryland’s largest and most prestigious award ceremonies and recognizes executives, businesses, and innovative technology developed in Maryland and the surrounding regions. Established in 1988, this event is now attended by over 800 executives from the technology and life science industries and draws a significant amount of local and national publicity.
Every year, the Tech Council of Maryland hosts a Leadership Dinner for members to share thoughts and discuss challenges they face as leaders within the technology community. This is a valuable opportunity to cement relationships with peers, discuss industry trends, and learn about the Tech Council’s upcoming Policy Priorities. The event is held in an intimate dinner setting in Annapolis during the legislative session.
Lifetime Achievement Black Tie Gala
The TCM Lifetime Achievement Award is given each year to a local individual who has gone above and beyond over the course of a career to serve the community at large. Recipients display commitment and leadership both in the field and within their company, fostering new ideas, and encouraging creativity. The recipient also demonstrates generosity and compassion, ensuring that their work benefits others. Past recipients include Clifford M. Kendall, Chairman and CEO (Retired) of Computer Data Systems, Inc., Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski III, President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and Dr. James Barrett of New Enterprise Associates.
Annual Crab Feast & Networking Bash
The Tech Council’s ultimate summer event is held on a late August afternoon and is complete with fare for which Maryland is famous. The Annual Crab Feast provides a great opportunity to meet and reconnect with Mid-Atlantic’s vast technology and life science leaders. Over 250 people attend each year and they enjoy Maryland steamed crabs and Smokey Glen’s famous barbeque for over two hours of summer fun.
Tech vs. Bio Ultimate Golf Challenge
This popular annual golf challenge pits Tech against Bio in a four-golfer Captain’s Choice event. Members enjoy a day on the course complete with plenty of friendly competition. Golfers end their day with a cocktail reception and the presentation of individual and team awards. The winning team gets their name on the TCM Innovation Cup, and a portion of the proceeds is donated to two charities.
Spotlight Series Events
Distinguished Speaker Series
The Tech Council is proud to present the newest addition to our Spotlight Series Events — the Distinguished Speaker Series. The Tech Council hosts up to three events, each featuring a world renowned executive who has made a significant impact and changed the landscape of their industry. Speakers are sure to inspire, inform, and entertain as they share their insights into the technology and life science industries.
Financial Executives Forum
The Financial Executives Forum (FEF) is devoted to peer-to-peer programs that highlight topics of interest for the region’s leading financial executives. Financial executives include chief financial officers, bankers, venture capitalists, accountants, attorneys, and others in finance. The FEF program has four educational breakfasts and two receptions that encourage participants to engage with, as well as learn from, some of the area’s preeminent executives, policymakers, and thinkers.
Health IT Series
The Tech Council of Maryland, Montgomery County Department of Economic Development, and the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce partner each year to advance the innovation of Health IT in Maryland. We produce a series of Health IT breakfasts that bring you the latest speakers and panel discussions on what you need to know in the health arena including patient records, data standards, interoperability, and the health information exchange.
The Bioscience Series provides programs that cover a broad range of topics focused on the latest trends in both science and business as they pertain to this industry. These events are attended by life science executives, business development and technical professionals, as well as representatives from government, academia, and the service provider industry.
The Technology Series is comprised of programs led by the world’s most advanced companies that push the boundaries of information technology, telecommunications, software development, hardware manufacturing, and much more. Our sponsorships include keynotes with important speakers from business and government; as well as conferences and programs to keep you up to date and connected.
Peer Discussions and TCM on the Go!
The Tech Council also hosts smaller peer discussions around industry topics with our roundtables. We also bring after-work events to different counties throughout Maryland with TCM on the Go! Whether you’re looking for a big event with over 800 industry leaders or a smaller group meeting around a focused topic, the Tech Council has a place for you to make new connections and prosper.
The Tech Council hosts bi-monthly lunches where members who are CEOs, presidents, and managing partners engage in discussions about key issues that are tied to the growth of the technology and life science industries. This is an excellent opportunity for local leaders to share their thoughts and work collectively on identifying and prioritizing issues that impact Tech Council members.
