Facebook has blocked a marijuana legalisation campaign from displaying the image of a pot leaf in ads on the social networking giant's site, and that's making the normally mellow group upset. Facebook is censoring the Just Say Now campaign from using the pot leaf in its advertising, with the site's decision to block the leaf coming earlier this month without explanation, the group said Tuesday. Facebook first approved the ads August 7, then backtracked on the decision August 16, Just Say Now said.

Sparking a fresh round of debate over an ongoing issue in time-keeping circles, the International Telecommunications Union is considering eliminating leap seconds from the time scale used by most computer systems, Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Since their introduction in 1971, leap seconds have proved problematic for at least a few software programs. The leap second added on to the end of 2008, for instance, caused Oracle cluster software to reboot unexpectedly in some cases.

- Bing now powering Yahoo search in North America
- Microsoft pact with Yahoo! begins to bear fruit
Bing is now fully fuelling Yahoo search results in the US and Canada, Yahoo and Microsoft said on Tuesday. The announcement marks one of the first major milestones since the two companies signed a 10-year deal for Microsoft to power Yahoo search and for Yahoo to use Microsoft's AdCenter advertising platform. Authorities in the US and Europe approved the deal in February, and the companies have said they expect to take about two years to fully implement the agreement.

The von Kármán Wings Award acknowledges outstanding contributions by international innovators, leaders, and pioneers in aerospace and is presented by the Aerospace Historical Society, which is part of the Graduate Aerospace Laboratories at Caltech (GALCIT). For the past 26 years, the society has been dedicated to the preservation of the history and achievements of aerospace.

DENVER, Colo., September 7th, 2010 -- Lockheed Martin Commercial Launch Services, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Lockheed Martin Corporation [NYSE: LMT], announced today that it has been selected by GeoEye, Inc. (NASDAQ: GEOY) to launch the company's next-generation, high-resolution Earth-imaging satellite, GeoEye-2, on an Atlas V rocket. Financial terms are not being disclosed at this time.

ORLANDO, FL, August 31st, 2010 -- Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] achieved a major milestone in the Joint and Allied Threat Awareness System (JATAS) Technology Demonstration program by delivering three prototype systems to the U.S. Navy for testing. JATAS will provide the next generation threat warning system to protect U.S. Navy and Marine Corps rotary-wing assault aircraft, increasing survivability of pilots and aircrews in hostile environments.
Each JATAS prototype system is a tightly integrated package consisting of a laser warning sensor to detect laser guided threats; a missile warning sensor to detect missile and hostile fire threats; and an open architecture processor to process sensor data and provide threat declaration. Lockheed Martin’s [NYSE: LMT] multi-purpose AGM 114R HELLFIRE II missile struck and destroyed a stationary tank target in its third proof-of-principle flight test, a ground-launch test configured to simulate launch from an unmanned aerial system (UAS). The R model, or “Romeo” missile, features a multi-purpose warhead that enables a single HELLFIRE missile to cover all of the target sets of the currently fielded laser-guided variants.A team consisting of personnel from Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Army Joint Attack Munitions Systems program office located in Huntsville, AL, conducted the test at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. The missile, armed with a live warhead, was fired at a stationary M60 tank located 6.4 kilometers downrange. Immediately before launch, test equipment emulating an airborne UAS launch platform sent targeting data and warhead delay selection commands for an armored target to the missile.
