Tech Council of Maryland Chief Resigns

Coons Led Fight to Reverse Computer Services Sales Tax

(ROCKVILLE, MD) – October 28, 2008 – The Tech Council of Maryland, representing the nation's second-largest technology hub, has announced that chief executive officer Julie Coons is resigning her post, effective at the end of November.

Ms. Coons' tenure was marked by significant accomplishments including most recently the successful rollback of Maryland's computer services sales tax during the 2008 legislative session. The grassroots campaign mobilized hundreds of IT professionals and community leaders from every corner of the state to converge upon Annapolis in defense of Maryland's most important growth industry.

"Julie has been a tremendous advocate for Maryland's technology and biotech communities and I will personally miss working with her," said Ed Rudnic, chairman of Tech Council of Maryland and former chief executive of Middlebrook Pharmaceuticals. "She leaves in place a top-notch professional staff and organization that will continue to represent and serve Maryland's fastest growing sector very, very well."

Ms. Coons joined TCM in 2004 and presided over an organization experiencing rapid growth. In 2006 she oversaw the group's successful merger with MdBio, combining the strengths of the state's two most important, high-growth sectors. Under Ms. Coons' leadership, TCM doubled its operating budget, created a charitable foundation, and established an investment fund.
