Tech Council of Maryland to Honor Winners of the
7th Annual Frederick County Technology Awards
(ROCKVILLE, MD) March 3, 2009 The Tech Council of Maryland (TCM) will honor the winners of its 7th Annual Frederick County Technology Awards during a cocktail reception March 12th at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center, Frederick, Maryland. The Frederick County Awards honor the achievements of the most influential and innovative technology leaders and firms in Frederick County.
"Frederick County continues to grow from the strength of its the IT and Biotechnology Communities," said Rick Harris, Executive Director of the MdTech Division of the Tech Council of Maryland. "This year's winners represent exceptional examples of what these communities are doing."
Each Award will be presented to the company or executive who, during the past year, exhibited leadership, growth and strong ties to the community in the following categories: Small Business of the Year, Firm of the Year, Executive of the Year and Service Provider of the Year.
The award winners are:
- Firm of the Year: Life Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ:LIFE) is a global biotechnology tools company dedicated to improving the human condition. Their systems, consumables and services enable researchers to accelerate scientific exploration, driving to discoveries and developments that make life even better. - Executive of the Year: Dr. Robert House joined DynPort Vaccine (DVC) in 2002, holding several positions before being promoted to President in April 2006. Initially a biodefense company, DVC has expanded to include public health and technical services. Dr. House has overseen initiation of six clinical trials in his tenure as president. In addition to growing the business he has been the cornerstone of a major positive shift in DVC's corporate culture. As a result of Dr. House's business and workplace initiatives, DVC has recently won several awards. In 2008 DVC was recognizes as a top 10 family friendly businesses in Frederick.
- Small Business of the Year: WGS Systems specializes in systems engineering, electronic system development, integration, testing and support. They also provide technical contracting services to the United States Navy under the SeaPort-E program. WGS's senior technical staff averages over 20 years of hands-on experience as premier developers of integrated multi-sensor surveillance and reconnaissance systems on manned and unmanned airborne, ground, surface, and man-packable platforms.
